The successful candidate will conduct mechanistic studies using electrochemical, spectroscopic, and microscopic characterisation techniques to understand degradation and failure pathways of Li-S cells. The post holder will investigate interfacial phenomena at lithium-metal and sulfur electrodes, and will fabricate and evaluate coin-cell and pouch-cell lithium-sulfur batteries using advanced electrochemical testing methodologies. This is a fixed-term role for 3 months in the first instance. Salary is £46,261 per annum inclusive of London allowance. This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff.
The successful candidate will hold (or shortly expect to obtain) a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrochemistry, Materials Science or cognate discipline and with an undergraduate degree (2(i) minimum) or M.Sc. in a relevant field. The post holder will have a knowledge of lithium-ion battery degradation mechanisms, as well as demonstrated experience in battery testing and electrochemical characterisation. Experience in the development or application of non-destructive characterisation techniques is essential.
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents we also offer some great benefits some of which are below:
