As a Research Scientist (m/w/d) Oligonucleotide Chemistry, you will support the development, optimization, and characterization of oligonucleotide synthesis processes for innovative gene synthesis technologies. Through your independent experimental work, scientific analysis, and technical problem-solving, you will help to continuously advance existing processes and technologies.

A day in the life:

• Planning, conducting, evaluating, and documenting experiments in the area of solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis
• Developing and optimizing synthesis, deprotection, cleavage, and purification processes
• Exploring new chemistries, reagents, and process parameters to improve yield, purity, and process robustness
• Characterizing oligonucleotides using UPLC, LC-MS, and other analytical methods, and evaluating product quality and process performance
• Analyzing experimental data, performing statistical evaluations, and deriving scientifically sound conclusions
• Identifying and addressing technical challenges including root cause analyses
• Independently working on sub-projects within cross-functional teams
• Creating scientific reports, SOPs, and technical documentation, and presenting results to project teams and management
• Ensuring efficient and safe laboratory operations
• Contributing to continuous improvement activities such as PPI, Lean, Kaizen, and 5S, as well as qualifying new methods and processes
• Working in accordance with company policies and diligently completing assigned tasks
• Ensuring high-quality, traceable documentation of your experimental work
• Actively participating in the continuous improvement of methods, processes, and work procedures

The key to success:

• Education:
• Master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related natural science
• Experience:
• Proven practical experience and in-depth expertise in solid-phase synthesis of oligonucleotides
• Proficient use of modern analytical methods (HPLC, UPLC, LC-MS) for quality control and characterization of oligonucleotides
• Experience in planning, conducting, and statistically evaluating scientific experiments
• Expertise in handling chemically modified oligonucleotides and their analytical characterization
• Strong knowledge in design of experiments (DoE), statistical data analysis, and the application of corresponding software solutions such as JMP, Minitab, or GraphPad Prism
• Ideally experience with automated processes, high-throughput platforms, process optimization, and technology transfer projects
• Skills:
• Very good English language skills, both spoken and written
