Research Specialist in Targeted Protein Degradation

The selected candidate will join the Sangfelt Lab at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Biomedicum, Karolinska Institutet. You will be part of a small, dynamic, and closely knit multinational team located in one of Europe's most advanced biomedical research facilities.

Description of the Subject Area

The Research Specialist position focuses on targeted protein degradation, with particular emphasis on replication stress and DNA damage response pathways. The projects integrate molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, genetics, and computational approaches to identify and exploit specific cancer vulnerabilities, and you will play a central role in developing novel therapeutic strategies.

As a Research Specialist, you will be responsible for leading research projects, supervising students and visiting scientists, and working closely with the group leader and senior scientists to maintain a high level of scientific rigor and professionalism within the team.

The ideal candidate has documented experience conducting independent research, taking responsibility for project development within the research area, and demonstrates a strong academic track record, including at least one recent first-author publication in a high-impact journal.

Your Mission and Responsibilities

• Project leadership
• Designing and conducting biochemical and cell-based high-throughput screens
• Integrating biophysical, computational, and cell-based data Independent experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation
• Active participation in a multinational research team and international collaborations

Eligibility Requirements

For employment as Research Specialist at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements stated in the Guidelines for non-teaching positions at Karolinska Institutet are applied in relation to the established profile of employment.

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Hold a doctoral degree (PhD) or a foreign degree deemed equivalent
• Have demonstrated research expertise with documented senior postdoctoral research experience.

Assessment Criteria

The assessment criteria form part of the overall evaluation of the applicant's eligibility and suitability. All criteria will be assessed collectively.

It is particularly meritorious if the applicant has demonstrated:

• Advanced expertise in ubiquitin ligases and protein degradation pathways
• Strong experience in cancer biology, replication stress, or DNA damage response mechanisms
• Independence in method development and execution of complex research projects
• A strong publication record

It is meritorious if the applicant has:

• Experience in leukemia research
• Experience with scRNA-seq, ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN
• Bioinformatics or data-analysis skills (e.g. R or Python)
