This is an exciting opportunity to join Felice Lab in the Centre for Integrative Anatomy as a 3D imaging and CT scanning technician. You will work in a collaborative research team to use 3D imaging and microCT scan data to investigate the development of the skeleton of sea urchins.
You will carry out microCT scanning and 3D image segmentation of sea urchin specimens to produce research outputs as part of an interdisciplinary team, including palaeontologists and developmental biologists at University of Southampton. You will aim to understand how their diverse skeletal elements, such as spines and plates, are formed during the growth of the animal. You will also be responsible for processing CT scans of sea urchin skeletons to create 3D digital models using Avizo, 3DSlicer, Dragonfly, or similar software. You will be expected to disseminate research results via conference presentations and publications. There will be a strong focus on career development through formal and informal training opportunities.
You must have experience processing and segmenting CT data to generate 3D models, for example using Avizo/Amira, 3DSlicer, or Dragonfly. You will manage and organise the data storage for the project and upload data to online repositories (for example, Morphosource.org). You may be asked to scan specimens using the CT scanning facility at UCL Division of Biosciences and/or to train others in CT scanning and image segmentation. Some experience with semi-automated segmentation techniques would be desirable, but not essential, for this role.
