Researcher at the HIPPIE Beamline (1y Temporary Position)

The HIPPIE beamline is located at the 3 GeV ring. Together with SPECIES beamline, it forms the APXPS group, which is focused on the development of the Ambient Pressure X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Program at MAX IV. The beamlines provide a wide range of sample environments for in situ and operando XPS and XAS across 4 instruments and numerous sample environments. Approximately 10 scientists, research engineers, and postdocs make up the group who, in addition to supporting the user science program, are all actively driving in-house research/development projects. Examples of which include time-resolved photoemission, electrochemistry, high-temperature corrosion, photocatalysis, and thin-film deposition.

The APXPS Group Is Looking For A Researcher, To Fill A 1-Year Temporary Position, Who Will:

• Interact with and support user groups at the HIPPIE beamline (including on-call work).
• Handle the day-to-day operation of the HIPPIE beamline and endstations together with the other beamline staff.
• Take a driving role in the electrochemistry program at HIPPIE.
• Participate in collaborative research with Swedish research groups external to MAX IV.
• Propose competitive ideas for research and development projects that can be realized within the APXPS group.
• Support postdoctoral researchers and PhD students associated with the APXPS group.

To Qualify For This Role, You Will Need To Have The Following Qualifications/Experience:

• Have a PhD in chemistry, physics, or closely related subject.
• Extensive experience, at a postdoctoral level or above, in the field of synchrotron-based spectroscopy, including performing and interpreting operando ambient pressure photoemission and X-ray absorption experiments.
• Established track record in the fields of electrocatalysis and electrochemistry.
• Experience with both the dip-and-pull method and membrane-based flow cells for electrocatalysis experiments.
• Experience in using and maintaining ultrahigh vacuum instrumentation.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Excellent command of the English language, good communication, and team working skills.

The Following Are Seen As Merits:

• Experience in user support at synchrotrons.
• Experience with the design, set-up, and commissioning of new surface science instruments.
• A track record with time-resolved spectroscopy, including pump-probe experiments.
• Understanding of X-ray optics.
• Ability to program using Python.
• Experience in handling large spectroscopy datasets.
• Experience in assisting with the supervision of PhD or postdoc projects.
