Research Fellow Opportunity

Assistant Professor Lynn Yap is looking for a motivated Research Fellow to join her laboratory at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (Novena), a medical school in Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

A/Prof Yap laboratory is working on the field of regenerative cardiology and metabolic disorders, where the team is interested in the basic and translational cardiometabolic research. The laboratory is focusing on regenerative cardiology using stem cell therapy to investigate cardio-immunology regeneration. We work with pluripotent stem cells and cardiovascular progenitor-mediated repair of myocardial infarction in small (rodents) and large (pigs) animal models. When transplanted into the animals, these progenitor cells engrafted, long-term survived and avoided ventricular arrhythmia in the animal. Therefore, providing a potential cellular therapy product for ischemic heart disease patients. In addition, we are interested in uncovering the molecular mechanism of cardiac regeneration, human graft maturation and immunology of the heart using disruptive technologies and inventions.

Lynn Yap's laboratory is pursuing medical innovations by integrating science, engineering and technology to positively impact patients' lives. Therefore, this role will provide an exciting opportunity for the individual to learn and experience collaborative academic/industry research and play an important role in impacting patients' lives.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct accurate monitoring, documenting and reporting of experimental results
• Present and communicate effectively the research findings
• Assist with figures and manuscript writing for publications
• Mentor the research assistants and PhD students
• Perform and troubleshoot wet bench experiments including stem cell culture, western blotting, molecular biology, microscopy, histology, and flow cytometry
• Perform bioinformatics analysis, to analyze multi-omics results (single-cell RNAseq, spatial RNA transcriptomics, spatial proteomics)
• Perform mouse myocardial infarction experiment
• Lead large pig myocardial infarction study with collaborators
• Perform other related duties related to the work describe herein or assigned by the supervisor

Requirements:

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree with strong background and proven track record across stem cell biology, cardiology, RNA biology, therapeutics discovery, functional genomics and/or immunology with at least 2 years of work experience in a research environment.
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Track record of high-quality publications
• Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and expertise in independent scientific research including molecular and cell biology, histology, flow cytometry and microscopy.
• Proficient with cardiac biology or immunology.
• Experience with cardiac myocardial infarction in large or small animals
• Strong interpersonal skills and a strong team player who is organized, energetic, open-minded, highly motivated, and able to multi-task and work collaboratively in a diverse team.
• Ability to work independently, develop solutions under strict timelines and meticulous.
• Required to mentor and train PhD students, interns and RAs
• Experience with scRNAseq or spatial transcriptomics will be advantages
• Experience with mRNA and LNP technology will be welcome
• RCULA certification and experience with animal studies will be required.
