Your next career opportunity You will provide expert clinical leadership for cutting-edge gonorrhoea trials and translational research at the Doherty Institute. You will design and lead a human challenge model, holding full scientific and regulatory responsibility. You will shape your independent research agenda, supervise students, and secure funding that influences global STI practice.

What you will deliver:

• Lead the strategic clinical research program on gonorrhoea pathogenesis, immunity, therapeutics and human challenge studies.
• Design, obtain ethics approval for, and execute complex human challenge trials, ensuring rigorous regulatory compliance.
• Plan and manage multiple concurrent clinical projects, delivering milestones and mentoring junior researchers in project execution.
• Supervise PhD and honours candidates, nurture collaborative team culture, and contribute to departmental research training outcomes.
• Secure competitive funding, publish high quality manuscripts, and represent the program at seminars and conferences.

You may be a great fit if you:

• Hold medical qualifications with specialist infectious diseases credentials, FRACP or equivalent, plus a PhD in STI research.
• Possess deep expertise in STI clinical trial design, management and leadership of complex cohort or interventional studies.
• Demonstrate leadership in best-practice clinical research, including data systems oversight and complex ethics and regulatory management.
• Maintain an independent, high-impact research track record, achieving project goals and attracting significant competitive grant funding.
• Work autonomously while leading teams, balancing competing priorities and mentoring junior researchers and higher degree candidates.
• Build effective collaborations with consumers, civil society and clinical partners, upholding the highest scientific and ethical standards.
