Job Description

Please log in to verify your internal candidate status. This is a full-time term position with a duration of one year from the date of hire. The anticipated start date is September 2026. Location – This role is in-person at South Campus, Edmonton. The swine technician is involved in all aspects of the high standard of care and husbandry of the research breeding herd at the U of A Swine Research and Technology Centre.

Responsibilities

Farrowing room husbandry; sow and litter care. Treatment of sick or injured animals. Maintain vaccination program per herd health vet recommendations. Semen collection and artificial insemination. Euthanasia by approved methods as required for both humane and research endpoints. Maintain data collection standards for production and research records. Facility sanitation and maintenance.

Qualifications

At least a high school diploma. Minimum 2 years of experience in a farrow-to-finish operation. Strong written and spoken English skills. Green Certificate, agricultural diplomas, or degrees would be an asset.
