The main purpose of the job is to provide technical support to researchers, academic staff, students and others within the Manufacturing Futures Lab (MFL), in order to help the MFL achieve its strategic research and teaching objectives. The post holder will also lead on the safe management of chemicals within the laboratory, supporting chemical risk assessments, safe storage and disposal procedures, and ensuring compliance with UCL chemical safety policies and COSHH regulations.
The post-holder will be expected to work and/or interact with other technical staff involved in supporting MFL research and teaching, and to assist in the maintenance and management of equipment, instruments and laboratory facilities.
We are seeking a proactive and organised individual with experience working in a laboratory or technical support environment to join the Manufacturing Futures Lab (MFL). The successful candidate will have strong practical problem-solving skills and the ability to support a wide range of research and teaching activities within a busy and collaborative laboratory setting. You will have knowledge of laboratory health and safety procedures, including the safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals, with an understanding of COSHH regulations and chemical risk assessments. Experience supporting laboratory equipment, instruments and facilities, alongside the ability to work effectively with researchers, academic staff, students and technical colleagues, will be essential. The role requires excellent communication and organisational skills, a flexible approach to work, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of laboratory safety and operational support.
Due to the nature of the role, the post holder must be able to work fully on-site and accommodate varying working hours between 08:00–16:00 and 11:00–19:00 depending on laboratory activities.
