Artificial Intelligence offers significant potential but also presents major challenges, particularly due to the rapidly increasing computational requirements. Therefore, powerful, scalable, and efficient hardware systems are among the central goals of AI research. At KIT, Division II, together with the Institute of Technical Informatics (ITEC) and the KIT Department of Informatics, are shaping these strategically important topics —with future close cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg Graduate Center 'Applied Artificial Intelligence (connAIx)'— and are establishing a
Research: Your research will focus on novel hardware architectures for artificial intelligence and machine learning, with applications in areas such as embedded systems, edge computing, and cloud computing. Central topics include specialized processor architectures and hardware accelerators that enable efficient, scalable, energy-efficient, and sustainable execution of AI algorithms. You will address challenges like co-designing hardware and AI algorithms, as well as issues in system integration, computational efficiency, and adaptability. As part of your work, you will establish collaborations both within and outside KIT, particularly with the Baden-Württemberg Graduate Center connAIx. Proactively initiating cooperative research projects is explicitly encouraged.
Key focus areas: Potential research foci include e.g. domain-specific processor architectures for machine learning, hardware accelerators for training and inference of deep learning models, neuromorphic architectures and alternative computing paradigms, or the co-design of hardware and AI algorithms. Additionally, energy efficient and sustainable architectures for edge AI and embedded AI systems, reconfigurable computing for AI, hardware-software co-design and co-optimization for AI, near-/in-memory computing, and system architectures for integrating AI accelerators can be key areas of interest.
Innovation and transfer: You will actively contribute to innovation and technology transfer, for example through collaborations with industry and application partners, the establishment of intellectual property protections, or the initiation of spin-off companies.
Teaching: You will teach 9 semester hours per week in the Informatics bachelor's and master's programs. This includes contributing to mandatory teaching in the bachelor's program, particularly in Technical Informatics. Additionally, you actively participate in the interdisciplinary master's program in Chip Design.
With the university professorship, you will assume leadership of an organizational unit at the Institute for Technical Informatics (ITEC).
You possess outstanding academic qualifications and are internationally recognized as a leading figure in the field of “Computer Architecture”.
You stand out through your experience in leading a research chair and securing third-party funding, and you possess excellent didactic skills.
Excellent Research Conditions & State-of-the-art Infrastructure: Benefit from a unique environment that combines university and large-scale research, and gain access to state-of-the-art equipment and interdisciplinary projects. This environment enables you to conduct both basic and applied research at the highest level.
International Networking: You will work in a global network that encompasses international collaborations and English-language scientific communication. KIT promotes exchange with leading research institutions and industry partners worldwide.
Transparent Career Paths & Personal Development: Clear development prospects, individual coaching, and a well-developed leadership development program support you in steering your academic career in a targeted manner.
Family-friendly Offers: The KIT Dual Career Service supports you and your partner in integrating into the workforce, while flexible working time models and company childcare facilities make it easier to balance work and family life.
Onboarding & Integration: A customized onboarding program will accompany you from your first day at work, enabling you to quickly get started in research, teaching, and the KIT networks and get off to the best possible start.
Salary is governed by the statutory provisions of the State of Baden-Württemberg and comprises the basic salary of salary grade W3.
In addition, the granting of performance-related pay components is possible. The family allowance is paid, where applicable, in accordance with civil service law.
