We seek an experienced scientist to advance our research at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurology in the laboratory of Dr. Cramer. Dr. Cramer studies how the brain recovers after stroke and develops personalized rehabilitation strategies to improve motor function. His research focuses on identifying biomarkers of stroke recovery using neuroimaging, EEG, and other biological measures, with a particular emphasis on upper extremity motor recovery and innovative approaches such as telerehabilitation. The successful candidate will be responsible for neuroimaging analysis, advancing imaging biomarkers of stroke impairment and recovery, leading scientific projects within the lab, mentoring students and trainees, and contributing to manuscript preparation and grant writing to support translational stroke rehabilitation research.
Specific Responsibilities The Project Scientist will design and conduct studies using neuroimaging and neurophysiological measures to better understand upper extremity motor impairment and recovery after stroke. The scientist will process and analyze clinical and research neuroimaging datasets, contribute to the development and validation of predictive models of motor recovery, and integrate imaging findings with behavioral and other biomarker data, including EEG where appropriate. They will analyze data using Linux-based neuroimaging software (e.g., FSL and AFNI), as well as MATLAB, R, and Python. The scientist will lead independent research projects, prepare figures, manuscripts, and grant applications under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, mentor students and trainees in neuroimaging analysis and research methods, and collaborate with multidisciplinary investigators to advance translational stroke rehabilitation research.
Additional Duties Ability to work on multiple projects efficiently and effectively. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team. Communicate scientific findings effectively through presentations, manuscripts and discussion with both scientific and non-scientific audiences. Supervise and mentor graduate students, undergraduate students, and research staff in neuroimaging analysis and research methods. Contribute to the development of new research directions, grant proposals, and collaborative projects. Report directly to the Principal Investigator and conduct independent research with minimal supervision.
Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree with five years of postdoctoral training in neuroscience or a related field in an academic or equivalent research setting. Candidates must have experience in neuroimaging, including proficiency in stroke lesion tracing and neuroimage processing. Prior clinical training is a plus.
Salary range for this position is $79,400- $92,200.
