We are seeking to appoint up to two Associate Professors to support the development and delivery of our vision for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence within UCL's Department of Computer Science. We are a large department with over 150 academic staff and sit at the nexus of a broad range of interdisciplinary collaborations across UCL. Our vision for Robotics and AI at UCL is to set up a new powerhouse at UCL East, and by 2027, we expect to have a core of over 25 full-time academics conducting research and teaching in the fields of Robotics and AI.
You will hold a PhD in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline, and have an established international research profile evidenced by a strong track record of high-quality publications in leading venues. You will demonstrate recognised expertise in one or more of the targeted areas, such as foundation models for robotics, large-scale robot learning, multi-agent systems, sustainable robotics, or robot safety and trustworthy autonomy. You will have a proven ability to secure significant research funding as a principal or co-investigator and to lead collaborative, interdisciplinary research programmes. You will bring substantial experience in teaching and curriculum development, with a strong commitment to high-quality, inclusive education and effective student supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills are essential, alongside experience in mentoring early-career researchers. You will also demonstrate a track record of engagement with industry, innovation, or entrepreneurship, and a clear commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion within academia.
As London's Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation, and we want our community to represent the diversity of the world's talent. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where we all belong. We therefore particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in UCL's workforce. These include people from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds; disabled people; and for our Grade 9 and 10 roles, women. Our department holds an Athena SWAN Gold award, in recognition of our long-term commitment and 'beacon' status in advancing gender equality.
