Division of General Internal Medicine – Research Investigator

The Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, invites applicants for Clinician-Investigator and Population Scientist faculty positions in the Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) at UCSF Health who seek to integrate research with patient care, education, and/or other academic responsibilities.

Candidates with exceptional promise, interest, and/or accomplishments in conducting clinical outcomes, health services, clinical epidemiology, health disparities, or community or population health research are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in recruiting candidates who can establish a research program focused on the patient populations we serve, including patients traditionally underrepresented in research or experiencing a disproportionate burden of health outcomes.

DGIM is home to nationally prominent research centers and groups funded by the NIH, PCORI, and other foundations, including the Center for Aging in Diverse Communities (CADC), Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education (CTCRE), Women's Health Clinical Research Center (WHCRC), Asian American Research Center on Health (ARCH), Smoking Cessation Leadership Center (SCLC), Multiethnic Health Equity Research Center (MERC), and Center for Advancing Scholarship in Education (CASE).

DGIM will consider both early-stage investigators seeking to develop research careers and established investigators with already successful research programs, appropriate to their proposed faculty level. Candidates must have completed (or are in the process of completing) a general internal medicine fellowship and/or have a doctoral degree in a health-related discipline or equivalent. Candidates who have an MD must also be American Board of Internal Medicine certified or eligible and possess (or are in the process of obtaining) a valid California medical license and a valid DEA. Successful candidates should demonstrate rigorous skills in research methodology, have a track record of research publications, and show promise for obtaining future career development and/or independent research funding. Applicants must have all requirements met by the time of hire.

DGIM offers a highly collaborative environment that supports junior and mid-career faculty researchers through structured mentoring, works-in-progress, and professional development activities. In addition, research faculty in the division have access to a faculty statistician who is available to advise on grant applications and active research projects, departmental grant preparation and mock grant review programs, and a wide array of research consultation and informatics resources from UCSF's Clinical & Translational Science Institute.

For positions that are 51% effort or more: The total compensation for this position ranges from $114,100-$344,400.

Total compensation at the University of California, San Francisco includes your base salary, which is determined by your rank and step at appointment, and negotiated pay for Health Sciences Compensation Plan members. Faculty who are members of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan may also be eligible for additional incentive pay.

For positions that are 50% effort or less: See Table 2 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $81,500-$246,000.
