The UCSF Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in conjunction with the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI) seeks faculty active in synthetic chemistry and/or chemical biology to join our vibrant, collaborative, and supportive discovery research community at the Mission Bay Campus in San Francisco. The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry includes diverse research in the areas of computational and synthetic chemistry, biophysics, chemical biology, peptide and protein design, systems and synthetic biology, enabling technologies, and drug discovery. Our department is characterized by a culture of collaboration and innovation in biomedical science: Faculty members typically have positions in one or more of our graduate groups (e.g., Chemistry & Chemical Biology, Biophysics & Computational Biology). Many of our faculty have positions in one or more institutes, which provide opportunities for additional collaborations and resources. The CVRI is devoted to fundamental research with direct or indirect relevance to cardiovascular disease.

We seek creative, innovative scientists who define and address fundamental questions in chemical biology. We are particularly interested in chemists, who wish to build a program that blends organic synthesis with biochemical, computational, and analytical methods to probe biological mechanisms. We provide faculty with resources to launch their program, including a strong mentoring culture, a competitive start-up package, administrative support, and facilities for advanced computation, organic synthesis, light and cryo-electron microscopy, mass spectrometry, high-throughput small molecule screening, cytometry, and state-of-the-art animal care. Our available lab space is well equipped for organic synthesis, cell biological, and biochemical research.

Faculty appointment will be made at a professorial rank commensurate with current academic standing. UCSF offers competitive salaries, research set-up funds, and recruitment allowances, and has numerous opportunities for faculty development and further training in mentorship.

The total compensation for this position ranges from $126,800-$332,700. Total compensation at the University of California, San Francisco includes your base salary, which is determined by your rank and step at appointment, and negotiated pay for Health Sciences Compensation Plan members.

Review will begin on Nov 15, 2026 and continue until the position is filled. Interviews will occur in two phases: video conference in December and January followed by in-person visits in January and February.
