The Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering is looking to appoint a full-time Lecturer (Teaching) in Control. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will take up the position by the start of the 2026-27 academic year (September 2026).
UCL is one of the foremost universities in Britain and the world. The Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at UCL is recognised as one of the leading Departments for research in its subject area, worldwide. Current broad research areas in the Department include Communications and Information Systems; Electronic Materials and Devices (including Nanotechnology); Optical Communications & Networks; Photonics and Sensors, Systems and Circuits.
The Department also has an extensive teaching programme, both at undergraduate (BEng and MEng) and masters levels. The Department launched new BEng and MEng degrees in Engineering (Electronic and Electrical) in 2014. They include a range of new departmental and cross-faculty modules, incorporating problem and scenario-based learning at all stages. This creates a highly engaging learning environment where students put their theoretical knowledge to practical application. The Department has also launched a number of MSc degrees over the years, the latest in Integrated Machine Learning Systems. All programmes encompass the execution of major projects where students work on various engineering or research topics.
The purpose of this post is to contribute to the Department's teaching related to control. This will include teaching and supporting teaching in the modules at undergraduate level and supporting the supervision of project students both at undergraduate and at MSc level, as well as other planning, tutoring, and assessment activities. The candidate will teach a second-year module providing an introduction to control theory and control systems. The module includes a MATLAB Simulink-based Control lab. The role will also involve working closely with other academics in the Department, and with appointed postgraduate teaching assistants (PGTAs). The successful candidate will be encouraged to also contribute to research within the department either in the control space or within educational research.
The role is available for 9 months in the first instance. Further funding to support the post may be available. The salary available is Grade 8.39 (£54,931 per annum inclusive of London Allowance).
Applicants should have a PhD in electronic engineering, computer science or equivalent qualifications and/or equivalent experience. The candidate will need expertise in Control Theory/Control Engineering and have at least understanding and knowledge of:
Candidates should also have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, as well as a high level of accuracy and keen attention to detail and passion for teaching. Experience of teaching undergraduates and/or postgraduates in a University Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent Department is desirable.
