Division of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine

The research group consists of approximately 40 employees, including three professors, seven associate professors (docents), and several PhD-level researchers as well as doctoral students working across various research areas and professions. The group is based at the Department of Clinical Physiology and Nuclear Medicine, Skåne University Hospital in Lund, and is well integrated into the clinical operations in terms of both organization and physical facilities. The research is conducted in close collaboration between Region Skåne and Lund University, and both employment positions and research funding—currently amounting to just over SEK 25 million per year—are distributed between the two organizations.

The research group is now recruiting a full-time (100%) doctoral student, with a start date of July 1, 2026 (or as agreed).

Work assignments In addition to following the doctoral education plan and participating in relevant courses, the role includes:

• Developing AI-based outcome measures based on cardiac MRI data, ECG, and registry data from Swedish national quality registries
• Developing and validating new machine learning methods for outcomes following diagnostics for suspected heart disease
• AI-based management and structuring of registry data

Additional duties may be included within the scope of the position.

Qualifications

Requirements for the Position

• Master's degree in bioinformatics
• Knowledge and experience in scientific work involving artificial intelligence and machine learning applied to cardiac MRI research

Eligibility Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who:

• Have completed a second-cycle degree
• Have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses
• Have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research, and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

Type of employment Limit of tenure, four years according to HF 5 kap 7§. The proposed start date is 1st July 2026, or as agreed.
