Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Transient Optical Spectroscopy of Photoelectrodes optical for organic oxidations to work under the supervision of Professor James Durrant in the Department of Chemistry, Oxford University, for a period of 12 months. The project is funded primarily by the EPSRC as part of project EP/Z536258/1, the Department of Chemistry, Oxford University, aligned with its Strategic Research Funding in Sustainable Energy.
As a Research Associate, you will join our team working on transient spectroscopic studies of photoelectrodes for sustainable fuels and chemicals, a UKRI funded project on photocatalytic green hydrogen production jointly with the McCulloch group at the University of Oxford. It will focus on the use of transient optical analyses of photoelectrodes for the complimentary oxidation of organic molecules such as glycol to value added products, including operando photoinduced absorption studies, and their correlation of materials structure, spectroelectrochemical analyses and photoelectrode performance.

About you: Experience in transient absorption and photoinduced absorption analyses of photocatalyst / photoelectrodes for glycol or related oxidation, in addition to expertise in photoelectrode preparation and functional evaluation will be essential.
In this role you will be expected to work well as a part of the team, and contribute significantly to the supervision of research students, support in proposal writing, and with the management of external collaborations.
Application Process: Applications for this vacancy are to be made online and you will be required to upload a supporting statement and CV as part of your application. In your supporting statement (no more than 1 page), please explain how you meet each of the selection criteria found in the job description. Certificates, references and research papers should not be provided at this stage.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on 29 June 2026. Interviews will be held as soon as possible thereafter. The University of Oxford and The Department of Chemistry are Silver Athena SWAN holders. Applications are particularly welcome from women and black and ethnic minority candidates, who are under-represented in Chemistry research posts in Oxford.
