Postdoctoral Research Fellow

The Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at Queensland Brain Institute, led by Professor Jason Mattingley, has an opportunity for a postdoctoral research fellow to contribute to cutting-edge research exploring how the brain regulates perceptual and cognitive processes. In this role, you will conduct human studies using behavioral testing and brain imaging techniques to investigate a range of cognitive functions, including visual foraging behavior, decision-making, attention and predictive coding.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Research: Produce high-quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms, contribute to competitive research funding applications, collaborate on joint research projects, and progress knowledge translation including commercialization of UQ intellectual property using best practice research methodologies.
• Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students, support researcher development through feedback and coaching, and assist with the effective management of research staff in line with University policies.
• Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate citizenship behaviors aligned with UQ values through collaboration, participation in internal service and committee work, and the development of emerging external partnerships with industry, government and the broader community.

About You:

• PhD in cognitive neuroscience, with expertise in human behavioral testing and brain imaging using EEG.
• Experience in conducting research on decision-making as applied to visual foraging behavior in humans.
• Tertiary-level qualification in engineering or related discipline with a focus on complex signal processing.
• Strong foundational knowledge of human cognition (decision-making, attention, predictive coding) and its neural underpinnings.
• Evidence of successfully completed research projects, scientific manuscripts and/or journal articles in cognitive neuroscience.
• Expertise in brain imaging data collection and analysis, including computational modeling using Bayesian approaches.
