Our research group is focused on unraveling the mechanisms affecting synaptic networks that condition cognitive decline in the early progression of neurodegenerative diseases. Our goal is to evaluate basic pathogenesis and pharmacological interventions in psychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases using ex vivo electrophysiological approaches in combination with transcriptomic, morphological, and behavioral techniques in animal models and human samples.

Your mission

We are looking for a motivated and ambitious postdoctoral researcher to develop a project focused on synaptic vulnerabilities in neurodegenerative diseases. In this postdoctoral position, you will perform ex vivo electrophysiology daily in animal models and human brain samples.

Key responsibilities include:

• Design a study to evaluate neuronal function and brain oscillations in ex vivo settings in animal models of Alzheimer's disease.
• Design a study to evaluate synaptic activity in ex vivo human brain slices.
• Conduct data collection, data processing, and data analysis in collaboration with internal and external partners
• Provide practical supervision to bachelor's and master's students
• Actively participate in research discussions, contribute to a dynamic and collaborative research environment, and mentor junior colleagues
• Prepare scientific presentations, contribute to research funding applications, and participate in scientific publications
• Engage with the local community and collaborate with other researchers

Your profile

As a postdoctoral researcher in our group, you are expected to be fully independent, from brain extraction to region-specific patch-clamp in different modalities and LFP configurations.

Requirements for the position:

• FELASA certificate for handling laboratory animals (mice).
• Comprobable experience (publication) in ex vivo electrophysiology, patch clamp in the different modalities and field recordings.
• Programming experience in Python, complex data analysis, and modeling is required.
• Because the project involves close coordination with multiple partners, strong collaborative skills, reliability, and clear communication are essential.

Meritorious for the position:

• Experience in hippocampal electrophysiology.
• Knowledge in neurodegenerative disease, specially Alzheimer's disease
• Experience in immunoflourescence

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish PhD is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. Completion of your doctoral degree within the last three years is considered an advantage. If there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
