We are seeking a Research Assistant to coordinate research activity for a major randomised controlled trial investigating an Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Programme (ICAP) for people with post-stroke aphasia.
Based at the UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, you will play a key role in coordinating research activity across two London sites: University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The trial will recruit 334 participants with aphasia, with half receiving the ICAP intervention and half standard care. Working closely with NHS clinicians, researchers, and university and NHS partners, you will support the coordination and operational delivery of the study, including participant liaison and study management.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to translational neuroscience research focused on improving outcomes for people with post-stroke aphasia, with opportunities to support analysis of structural MRI brain imaging data.
The role is available from 01 July 2027 and funded by an NIHR Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation Programme for two years in the first instance.
If you need reasonable adjustments or a more accessible format to apply for this job online, or have any queries regarding the application process, please contact the Institute of Neurology HR Team.
Informal enquiries regarding the role can be addressed to Professor Alex Leff.
You will have an undergraduate degree and strong interpersonal skills, with experience of working with patients and/or their carers. You will be highly organised, able to use your initiative, and capable of managing competing priorities to meet deadlines.
You will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong IT skills, attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a demonstrable track record of effective teamwork are essential.
Starting salary offered at £41,833 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer great benefits, some of which are below:
We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible, and job share basis wherever possible.
This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff.
