Research Associate

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a Research Associate at 100% FTE to join the Dr. Filip Van Petegem Laboratory.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

• Purifying ion channels for structural and biophysical studies
• Performing chromatography for protein purification
• Preparing cryo-EM grids
• Collecting high-resolution cryo-EM datasets
• Processing cryo-EM data for 3D reconstruction
• Building and refining structural models
• Conducting electrophysiology experiments
• Quantifying protein–protein and protein–ligand interactions
• Optionally applying X-ray crystallography techniques
• Training junior lab members
• Attending lab meetings
• Performing other job-related duties as required

Education/Work Experience:

The successful candidate will be expected to have a Ph.D in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology or a related life sciences field, and have previous years' experience as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow.

The successful candidate must also have the following:

• Proven ability to manage several projects
• Excellent communication skills including oral presentation at lab meetings and international conferences.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding team environment.
• Has the drive and enthusiasm to lead and work as a member of a team.
