Research Fellow – Sepsis Outcomes

An exciting opportunity now exists for a Research Fellow to join the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Research Centre (ANZIC-RC) within the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, based at the Alfred Hospital precinct. Working within the ICU-Synergy program led by Professor Carol Hodgson, this role will contribute to a nationally significant program focused on improving recovery and survivorship following sepsis.

The Opportunity

As a Level B Research Fellow, you will lead and contribute to a broad program of research activity focused on sepsis survivorship and long-term recovery outcomes. The role combines independent research with collaborative, interdisciplinary work across major national critical care research initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Analysing and integrating large-scale ICU registry and clinical trial datasets
• Conducting systematic reviews relating to sepsis survivorship and recovery outcomes
• Developing and contributing to manuscripts, conference presentations and grant applications
• Investigating patient-reported outcomes and long-term recovery measures following critical illness
• Supporting research translation and evidence-based improvements to care
• Co-supervising higher degree research students and contributing to a collaborative research culture

About You

You are an emerging or established researcher with a strong interest in critical care, outcomes research or survivorship following severe illness. You thrive in collaborative environments and are motivated by research that has direct clinical and community impact.

You will bring:

• A PhD in a relevant discipline such as nursing, medicine, allied health, epidemiology or health economics
• Experience in statistical analysis and working with complex health datasets
• A developing track record of high-quality research publications
• Strong manuscript and grant writing capability
• Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to multidisciplinary research teams
