Our R&D unit in Mengeš, Slovenia is looking for a motivated scientist in the field of formulation development to join our unit and help us develop a diverse portfolio of biotherapeutic modalities. As a Research Scientist you must demonstrate knowledge of pre-formulation/formulation and characterization to evaluate the developability of various biologics modalities covered by Novartis Biomedical Research and Development units, ranging from traditional antibodies to advanced biologics formats and mixed modalities. You will help shape the overall formulation strategy for large biomolecules before the project transition from research into early phase development and help funnel out unfavorable candidates with respect to formulation assessment. Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform pre formulation assessment for monoclonal antibodies, multispecific antibodies and other therapeutic proteins, including but not limited to solubility assessment and setup of formulation screening studies.
• Perform biophysical characterization methods such as DSC/DSF, dynamic light scattering (DLS), UV-Vis, turbidity, sub visible particle assessment, viscosity and other techniques that are LC based method (SEC,HIC) for characterizing therapeutic proteins.
• Utilize state-of-the art liquid handlers for compounding of formulations for large biotherapeutics to conduct stability studies on them.
• Conduct physicochemical analytics methods for characterization of various formats of biotherapeutics in screening, formulation and lead optimization stages.
• Operate and maintain instrumentations, perform data analysis and ELN documentation, and author method development and technical reports.
• Work in a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment as part of global project teams and contribute to data analysis and interpretation, making technical presentations and report writing.

Minimum Requirements – What you will bring to the role

• MSc degree in biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry or a related field; or BSc degree in biochemistry, biotechnology, chemistry or a related field with at least 2 year of relevant work experience.
• Good theoretical and practical laboratory experience in biophysical characterization methods such as DSC/DSF, DLS, UV-Vis, SEC, HIC.
• High learning ability to acquire expertise in new technologies and technical equipment.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to run multiple projects in parallel.
• Reliable and flexible team player, accustomed to sharing tasks and projects.
• Fluency in English (oral/ written )

Desirable skills:

• Experience in a neighboring discipline ( Phys-Chem analytics )

Expected Annual Base Salary Range for role: €20,300 to €37,700

The base salary offered is determined based on gender-neutral objectives, such as relevant skills, competencies and experience in accordance with the Novartis pay setting policy and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.

In addition to your base salary, you may be eligible for a performance-based bonus depending on certain performance parameters.
