Pharmacology Research Scientist

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Pharmacology Research Scientist to join our pain pharmacology group in San Diego. We are looking for a motivated, creative, and innovative scientist with a deep understanding of ion channel physiology and pharmacology and expertise in pain research. This lab-based role involves designing mechanistic studies, developing cellular models of neuronal function, and analyzing data to guide decision-making. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive experience using cutting edge electrophysiological and imaging techniques, utilizing primary cells, including human cells. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong desire to collaborate within a multidisciplinary drug discovery team.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design and execute pharmacology studies focused on ion channel modulation.
• Develop cellular models to study neuronal excitation, action potential propagation, and neurotransmitter release.
• Analyze, interpret and communicate pharmacological data to project teams.
• Collaborate with technology teams to integrate advanced tools into workflows.
• Ensure high standards of scientific documentation and communication.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong understanding of ion channel pharmacology.
• Experience with assays related to neuronal signaling and excitability.
• Experience with electrophysiological and imaging techniques, utilizing primary cells, including human cells
• Proven ability to design, execute, and interpret cellular assays.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to navigate and thrive in a fast-paced, highly-matrixed work environment.
• Passion for innovative solutions that improve lives.

Education and Experience:

• PhD and 0-3 years of experience or,
• Masters degree and 3 years of experience or,
• Bachelors degree and 6 years of experience

Pay Range:

$110,900 – $166,300

On-Site Designated

In this On-Site designated role, you will work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
