We are seeking a Senior Lecturer in Functional Foods and Ingredients to contribute to cutting-edge teaching, research, and engagement across areas such as bioactive compounds and health-promoting foods, functional ingredients that enhance food quality and performance, and the translation of scientific discovery into safe, effective, and innovative food products.

You will work within a collaborative and multidisciplinary team delivering undergraduate and postgraduate Food Science and Technology programs across the St Lucia campus, with potential teaching contributions at the Gatton Campus, while advancing research that connects science, industry, and real-world application.

The successful candidate will be integral to furthering our valuable collaborations both internally and externally, including UQ's Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI).

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

• Teaching: Demonstrate an established record of effective teaching in functional foods and food science and technology across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including curriculum design, course coordination, delivery, assessment, and student support across St Lucia and Gatton campuses.
• Contribute original scholarly and/or practice-based work that advances knowledge in the discipline while driving continuous improvement of programs through innovative, contemporary, and student-centred teaching approaches aligned with University policies and quality standards.

• Research: Maintain an active and high-quality research profile as a lead contributor, producing peer-reviewed publications and other discipline-appropriate outputs while undertaking impactful independent and collaborative research that builds national and international recognition.
• Secure and manage competitive research funding as chief investigator or team member, while driving translation of research into real-world impact through knowledge transfer, collaboration, and potential commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

• Supervision and Researcher Development: Provide high-quality research supervision across HDR, Honours, and coursework Masters project students, fostering researcher capability, professional development, engagement opportunities, and adherence to the responsible conduct of research.
• Lead and manage staff effectively across the employee lifecycle, including performance development, coaching, feedback, and timely resolution of conflict and grievances in line with University policies and procedures.

• Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

Applicants should possess a PhD in food science, biochemistry, biotechnology or a closely related discipline, and/or appropriate postdoctoral training relevant to functional foods, bioactives and/or ingredients. Additionally, you will demonstrate:

• An established profile in teaching and research in the discipline area (functional foods and/or functional ingredients).
• Evidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level across a variety of settings, including small and large groups.
• A strong track record of course coordination and participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.
• National recognition in an area of expertise, with an internationally developing profile and an established record of publications in reputed refereed journal and presentations at conferences.
• A strong record of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding, including from the food industry.
