The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Many researchers at the department are scientific advisors to authorities and other decision makers at regional, national, and international levels. The department is responsible for three international master's programs and the researchers are actively involved in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The department has 12 research groups, around 120 PhD students and about 140 employees.

The position will be based in the Health Systems and Policy (HSP) research group, led by Prof. Cecilia Stålsby Lundborg, focusing on antibiotics and drug resistance. The group works at the intersection of global health policy and translational approaches in prevention, training, diagnostics, and antimicrobial stewardship. It has strong international collaborations across in e.g. India and China, contributing to policy recommendations in antibiotic stewardship and infection prevention and control. The group also engages stakeholders within the One Health framework, contributes to public health education, and advises national and international institutions.

As work expands in evaluating new diagnostic technologies for antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in resource-limited settings, there is a growing need for interdisciplinary research that integrates public health data, cross-border clinical validation, and policy priorities. This position sits at the interface between biomedical innovation and global public health.

Your Mission

The Research Assistant (RA) will support clinical evaluation of scalable molecular diagnostic platforms targeting antimicrobial resistance (AMR), while assessing their integration into health systems and policy frameworks. By embedding diagnostic evaluation within One Health and policy approaches, the RA will help ensure emerging biotechnological solutions are clinically robust, implementation-ready, and policy-relevant for the global AMR response.

The role includes the following tasks:

• Analyse demographic, environmental, and pharmacovigilance data to assess impact on antibiotic use.
• Support analytical and clinical evaluation of diagnostics tools (e.g., PCR, immunoassays, digital health systems).
• Map diagnostic validation outcomes to AMR policies and One Health frameworks.
• Support alignment with quality systems and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in integrating AI-driven tools for AMR surveillance data generation.
• Take initiatives and assist with the preparation and coordination of competitive research proposals.

We are seeking a full-time research assistant for a 12-month fixed-term position. Start date: as soon as possible.

Your Profile

Requirements for the position:

• Master's degree in public health, global health or a related field
• PhD in clinical biotechnology or global health, with interdisciplinary experience in pharmaceutical sciences and diagnostics.
• Fluency in spoken and written English
• Documented experience in academic writing, preferably related to research grants or scientific publications
• Strong background and hands-on experience in in vitro diagnostics and multi-country clinical evaluations

Meritorious qualifications:

• Knowledge of quality systems (ISO 15189, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, GLP, EU IVDR)
• Understanding of One Health and AMR
• Familiarity with AI in healthcare data
• Proven experience in preparing national and international grant/funding applications.
• Proficiency in Indian languages (e.g., Hindi)
